your recreational expectations. Here, you'll find all the ingredients for
a
memorable vacation.
A Colorful Heritage
Explore the historical sites in Pensacola and relive 400 years of a rich
and
colorful past. The downtown historical district invites you along charming
streets and into restored homes. Fort Barrancas, home of the Pensacola
Lighthouse, and Fort Pickens recount the story of the area's involvement
in
the Civil War, and a variety of Florida museums relate our engaging
heritage.
Nature At Its Best
Many visitors come just to roam our natural environment, including
beautiful
barrier islands, scenic harbors, rivers and streams, and lush landscapes.
Wiggle your toes in the white sands of Pensacola Beach, Navarre Beach or
the
Gulf Island National Seashore. Swim, hike and picnic in some of Florida's
most scenic natural settings, including Blackwater River State Park,
teeming
with wildlife. If you’ve come for canoeing or kayaking in Florida, visit
the
pristine streams and rivers in Santa Rosa County, "The Canoe Capital of
Florida," where campsites, nature trails and picnic areas abound.
Military Honors
We're known as the cradle of naval aviation, which explains our attention
to
military matters, such as The National Museum of Naval Aviation on
Pensacola
Naval Air Station. Nearby, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels practice their
fascinating stunts and you can watch. Pensacola is home to a recreated
Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, and two well-preserved historical forts
are
open for your inspection.
A Looooong Pier
The newly opened Pensacola Beach pier is the biggest thing to hit the
beach
since bathing suits. Stretching into the water an impressive 1,471 feet,
it
is believed to be the longest fishing pier on the Gulf Coast. Plans for
the
new pier include a bait & tackle shop, an open-air restaurant and a
souvenir
shop.
